About PAWsitive Project
At PAWsitive Project, we believe that every pawprint leaves an impact. Our mission is to build a more compassionate and connected community by supporting the well-being of animals and the people who love them. Through our four branches—PAWSitive Pantry, PAWSitive Steps, PAWSitive Play, and PAWSitive Scholars—we promote pet food security, therapeutic companionship, shelter animal enrichment, and educational pathways for future veterinary leaders. Together, we empower youth, families, and communities to take action with heart, one paw at a time.
Meet the Founder

KAYA DECARLO
FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT
Kaya DeCarlo is the founder of The PAWsitive Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals by supporting local shelters and pet owners. A member of the Class of 2027 at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School, Kaya has always had a deep passion for animal welfare and dreams of becoming a veterinarian. She has participated in veterinary programs at several highly ranked colleges to gain hands-on experience and deepen her understanding of animal care.

Inspired by her love for animals—and her spirited Husky-Pomeranian mix, Simba—Kaya created The PAWsitive Project to make a real impact in her community. The organization raises funds and collects donations of food and toys to support animal shelters, while also assisting pet owners through food drives, dog-walking services, and playtime visits to help ensure pets are happy, healthy, and loved.

Through her leadership, Kaya is building a future where animals are better cared for and more connected to the communities they live in. She is committed to continuing her mission as she pursues her lifelong goal of becoming a veterinarian.
